Kyzen manufactures cleaning chemistries for defluxing PCBs, removing solder paste from stencils and bench-top cleaning applications. They have a lab and research facility in their Nashville facility which allows them to recreate your cleaning process in their factory. In their lab they haveboth Inline and Batch cleaning system to best duplicate your process. The access to the lab drastically improves your chances for success in your cleaning application.

Generally speaking you will always use a chemistry of some sort when cleaning a No Clean flux from a PCB, ironic right, cleaning a No Clean? No Clean formulations as designed to not require cleaning and even though functionality-wise they are succesful, cosmetically customers clean them anyways to remove the visible residue remaining from the flux. Since No Clean fluxes are not designed to be solubalized in water you need a chemistry in order to preoperly clean the PCBs. General concentration levels when cleaning a No-Clean can be approx. 10%-20%.

Even companies that are using a Water Soluble flux are beginning to use chemistries in their processes. One key benefit is that chemistries have surfactants built into them that will help lower the sruface tension of the DI water. The lower the surface tension, the further the DI water can penetrate under lower profile components, i.e. BGAs, CSPS, etc. This increased pentration improves the cleanliness of the PCBs. Another benefit of using a cehmistry with a Water Soluble flux is the defoaming nature of chemistry. Fluxes very often have agents that increase the foaming characteristics of the wash water. Without any additive to control it, the wash solution will begin to foam, possibly causing the machine to overflow with foam. Using a small concentration of chemistry can help to combat any foaming issues that you may come across with certain flux types. Typical chemistry concentrations when cleaning Water Soluble fluxes is about 2%-10%.

You will find that the Kyzen chemistries are very competitive with the top chemistries on the market with a much smaller price tag Kyzen is always developing new chemistries to improve their perfmormance and to meet the ever changing requirements of the industry. Kyzen is an active participant in the SMTA organization. Please consider Kyzen for your chemistry needs. If you send them a PCB sample with process information (flux type, flux manufacturer, etc.) they can assess your process and give you parameters for your cleaning process. This is greatly beneficial when starting up a cleaning process.
